About Bristol and the State Line

Bristol straddles the Virginia and Tennessee state line, with State Street running right down the middle. The Virginia side sits in Washington County, with the Tennessee side in Sullivan County. For agricultural work, this matters less than people sometimes think. The geography, soils, and farming traditions on both sides of the line are the same. The ridges, valleys, and pasture do not stop at the state border.

The Bristol area developed as a rail hub in the 1850s when the Virginia and Tennessee Railroad came through, connecting the region's farms, mines, and timber operations to the wider markets of the South. That railroad heritage is still visible in the bones of the town. The surrounding countryside is classic Holston River Valley: rolling cattle ground broken by ridges, with deeper hardwood pockets running back into the hills.

Why We Are Worth the Call

Bristol is on the edge of plenty of work crews' service area. Plenty of contractors will say yes to a Bristol job and then make you wait three weeks to get out there. We are not one of them. Bristol is core territory for us. We are out there often enough that we can usually fit a new project in quickly.

We are also set up for the kind of work this region actually generates. That means fencing crews who know cattle fence specifically, clearing equipment that handles steep wooded ground, and a willingness to walk every property before we quote it. The walk usually tells us more than a phone call ever could.

Common Work in the Bristol Area

Most of what we do for Bristol-area clients falls into a few patterns:

Perimeter fencing for new and established cattle operations, especially along property lines that border subdivided residential land where containment matters. Land clearing for pasture reclamation on properties that were lightly used or unmaintained for years. Barn lot work for cattle handling and equipment storage, often on properties where the previous owner's setup is no longer adequate. Ongoing maintenance, including brush hogging fence lines, repairing storm damage, and keeping access roads passable.

We also do regular hauling work into and out of the Bristol area, especially for owners picking up equipment, materials, or hay from regional suppliers.

One-Call Coordination

If you are looking at multiple projects on a Bristol-area property, running them all through Ranch Hand usually saves time and money. A new perimeter fence, a regraded barn lot, and clearing a few acres of overgrown pasture are three separate jobs for three separate contractors. For us, it is one project with one timeline, one crew, and one bill at the end.

Service Area Around Bristol

Ranch Hand works throughout the Bristol area on the Virginia side, including properties along the US 11W and US 19 corridors, the Bristol Highway out toward Abingdon, and the Holston River Valley north of town. We work the immediate Tennessee side as well when projects make sense for both us and the property owner.
